You can make many kinds of dishes just using the following, cracked wheat, quaker oats, kellogg's cornflakes etc. etc.
You can make not just quaker oats boiled with milk but you can also make a light soup with them and cooked shredded chicken ( or diced into bits). Just brown the onion in a little olive oil, add chicken, one finely chopped tomato, a little salt to taste, a spoonful of tomato paste, add enough quakers ( small pan will be plenty) till it absorbs all the quakers as in porridge and stir constantly. It is ready to serve. You can do the very same with the cracked wheat too and use even tuna fish in can. Make Kellogg's the same way you would make a porridge, absolutely delicious, been making it for years.
Broths are good, and light soups. Preferably homemade, as the canned stuff tends to have too much salt and/or fat.
Poached/boiled chicken and boiled potatoes are very mild.
Pudding and ice cream are good, especially if she's losing weight. Milkshakes too, you can add protein and vitamin powder to help keep her nutrient levels up.
Pasta with a touch of oil or butter, just keep it light, and some light, fresh herbs.
Oatmeal and farina (cream of wheat/malt-o-meal) are good breakfasts.
And of course, there's jello. It's what they give people post-operatively in hospitals for a reason, it's very easy to tolerate, helps keep hydration levels up, and it tastes good. (So long as you can handle the texture.)
The Sensitive Stomach Smoothie
lite silken tofu (1/2 package)
slices of frozen banana (about 1/2 a banana)
1/4 cup non-dairy milk (preferably plain)
Put it all in the blender and let 'er rip!
Blend this really well so that there are no tofu chunks in your drink.
There is not a ton of flavour to this (unless you add more banana), but it is nice to be able to have something more filling than clear soup and applesauce when you're eating only simple foods.
Serves: 1
Preparation time: 2 mins
