I have to take something to work for a big morning tea. Everybody brings something and we usually end up with more sweet dishes than savoury so I would like really like to take a savoury. Anybody got any yummy but fairly simple recipes?Do you have a good recipe for savoury finger food?
A frittata, quiche or some kind of savoury pie would be good. Sausage rolls perhaps?
Other than that, you could also just bring cheese and crackers. It's a crowd pleaser.Do you have a good recipe for savoury finger food?
I usually will make some small Phyllo dough cups and use different fillings in them.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Take a sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Lay another piece of phyllo on that and brush with butter, repeat so you have 3 layers of Phyllo. Cut the Phyllo sheet into 8 pieces. Repeat till you have as many pieces of phyllo as you want.
Place the phyllo pieces into mini muffin cups and place a spoonful of filling in each cup. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the phyllo is crispy and golden.
Here are some fillings I've used in the past:
Spinach/ feta (tastes like spinach pie):
Thaw frozen, chopped spinach and squeeze out excess water. Sautee some minced onion in a little olive oil in a pan. Add the spinach and cook through. Add crumbled feta cheese and salt and pepper to taste.
Crab/Cream cheese (tastes like crab rangoons):
Combine pre-cooked crab (I've used the fake crab meat before and it worked well, plus it's cheaper)and cream cheese. I usually use about 2 parts crab to 1 part cream cheese. Add a little garlic powder and paprika to taste.
Brie and cranberry:
Cut brie into small chunks and put into the phyllo cup with a few dried cranberries and toasted pecans.
Artichoke %26amp; Red Pepper:
Chop up some canned artichoke hearts and roasted red peppers (available in a jar). Mix in a little mayo and garlic.
Mushroom
Mince some mushrooms and sautee in a little olive oil with garlic. Drain excess oil from mushrooms and add a little bit of bread crumbs, Italian seasoning (or you can use the pre-made Italian bread crumbs) and grated parmesan cheese.
Try a few of these..
Cream Cheese Bacon Cresents--
1 tub (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Chive %26amp; Onion Light Cream Cheese Spread
3 slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon, cooked, crumbled
2 cans (8 oz. each) reduced fat refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
PREHEAT oven to 375°F. Mix cream cheese spread and bacon in small bowl until well blended.
SEPARATE each can of dough into 8 triangles each. Cut each triangle in half lengthwise. Spread each dough triangle with 1 generous tsp. cream cheese mixture. Roll up, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point. Place, point sides down, on ungreased baking sheet.
BAKE 12 to 15 min. or until golden brown. Serve warm.
---Antipasto loaf---
1 French bread baguette (12 oz.)
1 tub (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese Spread
3 Tbsp. pesto
1/2 cup drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, chopped 1/2 cup drained marinated artichoke hearts, chopped
2 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese
2 cups baby spinach leaves, coarsely chopped
CUT baguette lengthwise in half. Remove soft insides from both bread halves. (Reserve removed bread for another use.)
MIX cream cheese spread and pesto; spread evenly onto insides of bread shells. Fill evenly with tomatoes, artichokes, Parmesan cheese and spinach.
REASSEMBLE baguette; wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to 4 hours. Cut into 25 slices to serve.
Hope these Help!!!
I entertain alot, and the four easiest quick recipes I have are these:
1. Take a sheet of puff pastry, spread dip ontop, add some grated cheese, roll, cut into 1 or 2cm pieces, and bake in a 180 degree oven for 5-10 minutes.
2. Slice a baguette in half, spread dip or avoado over that, add grated cheese and dried chilli flakes and bake in the oven for ten minutes.
3. Mexican dip: In a reasonably shallow bowl, layer refried mexican beans, taco seasoning, sour cream, finely chopped fresh tomato, and grated cheese. Serve with corn chips to dip.
4. Prawn and bacon dip - Buy a beautifully fresh large damper roll. Scoop the middle of the bread out to make a bowl shape. Mix together 1 tub of sour cream, 2 hand fuls of cooked, chopped bacon, 1 handful toasted pinenuts, 1 tin of drained prawns, 1 handful of chopped, cooked spinach.
Pour into the bread bowl.
Use the bread that had been ripped out of the base for dipping.

Breakfast pizza!!!! Get store bought pizza dough, roll out, pierce with fork and bake as directed, saving five minutes. Top with a light coating of cream cheese. Very light. Add scrambled Eggs, Crumbled bacon or Sausage, veggies of your choice and top with shredded cheese. Put that baby back in the oven for 5 minutes to melt everything and then cut into squares!!!
Also, try making the eggs and bacon the night before so you have extra time in the morning!
Good Luck
Just because somethings quckand easy doesnt mean it has to taste bad
Something as easy as a Philadelphia sweet chilly philly cheese thing and a box of poppyseed water crackers will be excellent.
Just go down to your local grocery store and have a look. I guarantee that as oon as you look at all the choices, you'll have a million ideas.
